About us

Pocket Press was founded in 1992, by a

street officer and a prosecutor.

This unique blend of experience and skills produces products specifically designed for patrol officers. This team still directs the company and reviews every book we publish.

We are committed to publishing books that contain the information most needed by street officers in a form that is readily available: In hard-copy books, for eReaders, tablets, smart phones, and computers -- as well as at the department/precinct, or on the computer in the patrol car.

We solicit and receive suggestions every year from working officers and prosecutors as to statutes to add to the books, or additional items to index to make the information easy to find.
Our goal is to provide comprehensive statutory information in a convenient form.

About our books

Our goal is to provide the very best compact law reference book available

A team of experienced street officers and prosecutors carefully hand-select the sets of laws to include in each of our books.Their criteria is centered around what will be of the most use to a street officer, plus the supporting statutory material, such as definitions and sentencing information.

To maximize the usefulness of our books, some statutory material of select laws is omitted -- but only where the information is not practical to officers on the street. (For example, subsections that outline diversion programs.) After the selections are made and compiled into our book files, the text of our books are proofed -- word for word, comma for comma to make sure that we have the correct information. Not infrequently, we find errors in the original text of the law, and we notify the appropriate office or government agency.

Our proofreaders are prosecutors, so that in addition to validating the information, they simultaneously examine the statutes to determine if there are other statutes that should be included, and that we have all necessary supporting material.

Our books are frequently used by prosecutors and judges -- excellent evidence as to the value of our products. The index sections in our books are one of the most valuable features. Rather than a broad permutation of the words in the titles, the index entries focus on common street parlance for offenses. As an example, rather than something like "Certain persons not to possess firearms,” our index would contain: “Ex-con in possession, Felon in possession of firearm, Firearm-Felon in possession.”

Our prices are low to make sure that they are affordable by the individual officer, in the case the department does not furnish them.

Customer Comments

Our best advertising is our customers.

"I immediately liked the small, convienent size and quick-locating index. Plus, there was a large increase in the Hispanic population in our area after Hurricane Katrina, and I need a simple and easy tool to help me communicate and stay the professional that I am. [Our Criminal Law guides have a 'Spanish for Street Officers' section. This helpful reference has sample dialogues for typical traffic and subject stops as well as commands for use when dealing with high risk incidents]."

"I am a police officer in Wisconsin, and this is the third year in a row I have ordered the criminal codes for my state. This year I ordered the Traffic Codes as well. "The books are great and I use them while out on the street, but I love the PDA/electronic version. I always get asked questions when I am off duty and now I can show people what the law is."
